Mathias Böhm

Born in Stuttgart, Mathias Böhm lives and works as a freelance artist and graphic designer in Filderstadt, Germany. While in high school, he trained with Paul Maar and Gerhard Tagwerker and later followed the self-taught study of fine arts.

Later, he would go on to win the grand prize in a nationwide art competition held by Geno Banks. He also gathered various awards in poster painting.

His artistic signature is clearly influenced by surrealism, though it has been transformed into a more modern form. The artist's works include, as is common in surrealism, an examination of contemporary issues and their effects and pressures on the individual. His art is also a form of self-reflection.

Since 2016, the artist has also adapted computer-generated dream images from vector graphics, photographs and colour gradients into palette-knife oil paintings, creating different, innovative visions in a technique called "Abstracted Surrealism."

"The artist, in my view, is a driven man. He is fuelled by his thoughts, his feelings and his passions. He is driven by his innermost being, which inexorably breaks through and penetrates to the outside. He simply wants to create things into being."
